Venerable low-cost device manufacturer Kyocera has announced the revival of its long-dormant smartphone development division with the forthcoming launch of the Kyocera Zio M6000 smartphone powered by Android.
The Zio breaks from Kyocera’s otherwise bland and utilitarian designs by creating a sleek slate formfactor with mid-range hardware. Technical specifications consist of tri-band CDMA EVDO Rev. A suppoort on the 800/1700/1900MHz bands, making it compatible with networks operated by all major US CDMA carriers underpinned by Qualcomm’s MSM 7227 chipset with 512MB of RAM and 256MB of ROM.
The device also features a Wi-Fi radio, Bluetooth with stereo audio support and GPS support. It also features a 3.5-inch capacitive WVGA resolution display, a 3.2 megapixel camera with dedicated camera key and video capture at 30 frames per second, a digital compass, accelerometer and support for microSD cards up to 32GB.
In related news, the device will be launched by Cricket later this summer as one of its first smart device offerings.
Awesome! Its about time Cricket gets a good quality phone! They are now only $30 a month for unlimited talk/text.
Photos coming soon, we checked it out… Android 1.5 for now.
