Chipset developer and integrated solutions provider CSR has announced the first processor that combines Bluetooth 2.1+EDR, Bluetooth Low Power (formerly known as WiBree), eGPS access, and FM transmission/tuning.
The BlueCore 7 solution is designed to simplify the inclusion of many different technologies in order to reduce total development and handset costs.
The inclusion of eGPS is designed to build on assisted GPS by increasing range using Bluetooth transmission and sharing resources between both protocols.
The inclusion of Bluetooth Low Power and Bluetooth 2.1+EDR are designed to offer the highest performance and minimum power draw by dynamic selection of either standard depending on the device connected while also allowing for the inclusion of a combination FM radio and transmitter without causing interference between protocols.
This would allow someone to use the built-in FM tuner on the phone with stereo Bluetooth headsets without issues, as well as featuring a high output rating for reception in the most challenging enviroments, such as extremely low levels and office buildings with high amounts of steel.
The chipset is expected to be available for integration beginning in the fourth quarter of this year with no specific details on commercial availability within handsets.
