Clearwire Announces Roaming Agreement with Japan’s UQ Communications

Following up on preliminary plans announced last year, Clearwire has announced its first international WiMax roaming agreement with Japan’s UQ Communications whereby Clear customers will be able to purchase day passes on WiMax equipped laptops and other devices for $7 per day in Japan.  The agreement does not extend to 4G phones as of yet and does not apply to Sprint 4G devices either. UQ Communications is Japan’s largest and only WiMax provider in the country, having been launched in 2009 and covering 90% of the Japanese population with special attention paid to the largest cities.
