The first renderings of the Cingular 8525 have been posted on the internet. The confidential HTC drawings represent the HTC Hermes device. However, it is clear from the drawing that Cingular and HTC have modified the device from the reference HTC Hermes design. The most apparent change is the removal of the front-facing camera.

Cingular will require customers to purchase new devices in 2007 which support video calling. This is a costly choice compared to AT&T Wireless, whose UMTS devices released three years ago left video calling support in the device, waiting to be enabled when the network was ready.Cingular expects to launch the 8525 in the fourth quarter of this year.
