A report by ZDNet has revealed that Verizon Wireless has decided to tack on additional fees for its “no contract†data access plans on its version of the Samsung Galaxy Tab.
Once the device is purchased and activated under the tablet exclusive data plans available for the device, Verizon is charging customers a $35 activation fee for the plan as well as prorating the first month and charging for a month in advance plus taxes and fees, which equal $61.32.
If you decide to cancel data service and then start service again, Verizon will treat the re-activation as a new account and still charge the $35 activation fee, while merely placing the account on suspension for reactivation later (a little-known trick) will garner a lesser $15 account reactivation fee.
This is in contrast to AT&T not charging customers additional fees outside of the monthly $15/$25 rates for data access on the iPad and Samsung Galaxy Tab variant, which will be released tomorrow with support for the aforementioned plans.
At&t is launching the Galaxy Tab tomorrow Nov 21, 2010 with the same plan as the iPad.
