In a bid to be more competitive against other prepaid services and increase the appeal of the brand among data-conscious users, Boost Mobile will increase data on its current plan slate until November 3rd, though dealers have already confirmed that the plans could become a permanent change, if they attract enough new subscribers.
The plans will also receive a $5 monthly discount, with the $40 plan becoming the $35 plan while data jumps from 500MB to 1GB of data per month, the $50 plan will see the biggest increase from 2.5GB to 5GB of data with a discount to $45, and the $60 plan jumps from 5GB to 10GB of data per month with a lower monthly rate of $55. As an additional incentive, dealers have also confirmed that current customers will be able to switch to the new plans starting tomorrow and both new and current customers that switch will be able to keep the plans on their account as long as the accounts remain active, with automatic grandfathering after the November 3rd end date for the promotion.
These plans will be heavily promoted for the school season while falling inline with Sprint’s short-term push to promote data access, and as Virgin Mobile is moving away from being the data focused brand that it once was with the launch of Virgin Mobile Custom, that distinction now moves to Boost Mobile for the time being. Heavy data users will especially want to take a second look at the $55/10GB monthly plan, as such an allotment on carrier installment plans would normally run over $100 monthly for a single line.
