After much testing, we have discovered that BitPim not only works with the Samsung A620, but enables for some functionality that was previously not possible on any Sprint phone.
Using BitPim’s .7 test release six (which adds the “Other CDMA Phone” option that allows you to try unsupported phones, like the A620), we were able to successfully download J2ME applets stored in the phone to PC, as well as downloaded ringtones and screensavers. While BitPim cannot upload these back to the phone, they can be sent back via an Upload Tool.
Programs are stored in the /ams directory. The JAR and JAD files are clearly labeled, along with a database file that appears to be the phone’s post-processing measures (not necessary to extract this, as the phone regenerates this file when the files are sent to the phone, along with the enclosing directory). To extract the files, you simply right-click the file and chose “Send…”.
This was done using the Samsung A620, the A620 FutureDial USB cable, and the FutureDial USB Driver.
This functionality enables users to easily backup the contents of their phone without having to rely on off-site “lockers” of content that can change, leaving users without their data.
And, like Sanyo phones, the MSL can be obtained in the file /nvm/nvm/nvm_0002 as it is one of the six-digit codes listed in the file.
