AT&T has announced the forthcoming launch of its first Novatel MiFi unit with the 2372, which is the GSM version of the MiFi series of mobile broadband modem/routers with support for applications as the AT&T Mobile Hotspot. Pricing is set at $149.99 after new 2 year agreement before an additional $100 mail-in rebate, bringing the total to $49.99.
AT&T’s Mobile Hotspot will be bundled with browser-based widgets such as data usage and SMS counters as well as GeoSearch and GeoWeather widgets, with further support for DataConnect plans starting at 200MB for $35 or 5GB for $60 per month. The unit also features a microSDHC slot.
The Novatel 2372 was first announced in July of 2009 by Novatel with the debut of the Developer Lounge which would allow for interested developers to deploy third-party applications via Novatel’s own storefront.
The first generation of MiFi modem/routers was initially confirmed to include app support in a firmware update, but was quietly abandoned as the units did not have enough memory/processing power to support the app functionality and operating system necessary for the feature to work.
