PhoneNews.com can confirm changes are coming to AT&T’s GoPhone service within the next few days centering on more data and full iPhone feature support.
To start, the $60 monthly unlimited smartphone plan with LTE support will get an additional 500MB of data included in the current 2GB cap, making the monthly data allotment 2.5GB per month on that plan going forward. It should be noted that Straight Talk already offers the same service level as the upcoming changes in its $45 plan, the difference being that GoPhone offers more peace of mind in terms of customer service in exchange for the higher monthly rate.
Second, and marking the biggest changes to GoPhone is the increased support for the iPhone in the addition of Personal Hotspot and FaceTime over cellular support, a rarity on US prepaid service. In fact, some users on HowardForums are already reporting the ability to use both Personal Hotspot and FaceTime over LTE on the $60 plan, although both features are not officially supposed to be active on GoPhone until next Wednesday, April 23rd and monthly rates are expected to remain the same, though some customer service reps are also hinting that the rate may see a slight increase to account for the added feature support.
With the addition of Personal Hotspot support and FaceTime over cellular, GoPhone will become even more compelling for iPhone users compared to other prepaid brands, especially for those that would rather buy an iPhone and use it on prepaid rather than sign up for a conventional service agreement or AT&T Next, as the addition of Personal Hotspot and FaceTime over cellular means that all of the key iPhone features will be fully supported on GoPhone, which is in stark contrast to 24 months ago when the smartphone wasn’t even officially supported on GoPhone after being restricted by AT&T starting in 2009 and not being allowed on the prepaid service again until last year.
ALSO, GoPhone has uncapped AT&T LTE data with low ping (no lag) — and is sold and serviced in corporate AT&T stores. Postpaid experience at prepaid price.
