As expected, AT&T has launched two new handsets today to mark the first day of Summer in the BlackBerry Q10 and the first NEC-branded device since the days of NTT DoCoMo-backed Legacy AT&T Wireless in the NEC Terrain.
Starting with the BlackBerry Q10, the phone features a 3.1 inch touch display with a QWERTY keyboard, dual-core Snapdragon processor at 1.5GHz with 2GB RAM and LTE Band 2, 4, 5 and 17 support, BB10.1, 8.0 megapixel camera with LED flash, 16GB internal memory with microSD slot and HDMI-out for $199.99 after new 2-year agreement or $584.99 outright.
The NEC terrain marks the return of the NEC brand to AT&T Mobillity since 2003, when NEC provided the former AT&T Wireless with a slate of feature phones owing to NTT DoCoMo previously investing in the carrier. The NEC Terrain also marks the first Android smartphone to be launched from the Japanese manufacturer in the US. The phone is available now for $99.99 after new 2-year agreement or $429.99 outright.
The Terrain features AT&T’s nascent Enhanced Push to Talk service along with a 3.1-inch touch display, a dual-core 1.5GHz Qualcomm snapdragon S4 processor, and a physical QWERTY keyboard for text entry underpinned by Ice Cream Sandwich. It also features a 5-megapixel main camera and VGA front-facing camera.
The Terrain also includes 8GB of internal memory, and support for microSDÂ expansion up to 32GB. The Terrain also has a dedicated PTT button and earSmart audio technology, which NEC says gives the Terrain’s dual speakers a significant boost with echo cancellation and noise suppression. It is certified for protection against dust, water, and shock under MIL-STD-810G standards.
