AT&T Announces Asus Padfone X As Carrier Exclusive

By Humberto Saabedra on January 6, 2014

AT&T PadFone X

During its Developer Summit this morning and fully revealed during ASUS’ own press conference, AT&T has announced that it will bring over the previously exclusive to Taiwan Asus Padfone with an exclusive variant in the Padfone X.

The PadFone X has both a 5-inch smartphone and a 9-inch tablet that dock with one another and both feature 1080p displays. The display from the smartphone and apps will instantly transition from the smartphone to the tablet when the smartphone is docked with the tablet. The PadFone X tablet device also features a soft-touch back cover, a metal finish outer frame, and stereo speakers. The tablet also includes a large battery that will charge the smartphone when it is docked, though the tablet does not feature its own radio hardware or internal memory and needs the smartphone to function.

The PadFone is also one of the first devices from AT&T to include LTE-Advanced related technology in Carrier Aggregation for faster peak and average speeds on its LTE network. It also supports both VoLTE and HD Voice, which represents the first device from AT&T to support both technologies in one device. Finally, the Asus PadFone X ships with Android 4.4 Kit Kat. Pricing and availability will be announced at a future date.
