This morning, Apple formally filed suit against HTC, alleging that HTC is infringing on 20 Apple patents related to the iPhone’s user interface, underlying architecture and hardware specifically, citing HTC’s Android implementation and Windows Mobile/Android hardware in recently unveiled filings.
The lawsuit was jointly filed with the International Trade Commission in Delaware district court. Apple didn’t specify damages or injunctions it wanted levied against HTC. Apple CEO Steve Jobs stated the following in a prepared statement this morning:
“We can sit by and watch competitors steal our patented inventions, or we can do something about it. We’ve decided to do something about it, We think competition is healthy, but competitors should create their own original technology, not steal ours.”
