After weeks of customer reports and investigation, Apple has confirmed the existence of bugs in iOS 5 that have led to worse than expected battery life for devices updated to as well as issues centered on the iPhone 4S.
“A small number of customers have reported lower than expected battery life on iOS 5 devices,†an Apple spokesperson told The Loop. “We have found a few bugs that are affecting battery life and we will release a software update to address those in a few weeks.â€
Fixes for the battery life issues have centered around disabling Wi-Fi, Bluetooth and location services, with special attention paid to the location-based time zone setting and the constant pinging for location causing the higher than normal battery drain compared to iOS 4.
Update: Apple has begun to seed iOS 5.0.1 to developers this evening, which includes the long awaited battery life bugfixes as well as additional gesture support for the first generation iPad first introduced on the iPad 2. Apple has not confirmed when the update will be rolled out to carriers for customers at this time.
