Alltel Launches Motorola Evoke

ImageFollowing up on the cancelation of the Evoke for MetroPCS, Alltel has launched its version of the high-end slider.

The slider features a large 2.8 inch QVGA resolution touchscreen display, 2.0 megapixel camera with video recorder, microSDHC expansion slot, media player, GPS support via Alltel Navigator, speakerphone, Bluetooth with stereo audio support and support for social networks via a built-in application.

The phone is now available for $249.99 after new 2 year agreement before an additional $100 mail-in rebate, bringing the total to $99.99.

I think I know what is wrong with Motorola — They chimps running the show. Why go through the effort of making a surprisingly attractive unit [for a moto] and leave it with only a 2.0 camera and no wifi ?? And why did not they not release a GSM version of it ? Who cares about Alltel [no offense to alltel folks]

There’s little/no point in a slide out number pad. People don’t really have trouble with an on-screen number pad. Slide out qwerty keyboards are quite different in value.

Motorola needs to shift to being a design warehouse- conceptualizing the externals of a phone but leaving the OS and minutia to others who won’t mess it up. Their phones usually look decent enough, but the internals and OS don’t hold up.
