“Action Center” Notification Center for Windows Phone 8.1 Leaks

By Humberto Saabedra on February 9, 2014

After months of rumors and speculation, the first images confirming the existence of the long awaited notification center for Windows Phone 8.1 have leaked.

The new ‘Action Center’ comes up with a swipe from top to bottom and shows four toggles for basic settings – Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, Airplane and Driving modes. The new notifications hub will also display battery percentage and date.  A full pull down reveals the complete ‘Action Center’ with all notifications in it appearing in categories, apparently by the app they originated from. Notifications can also be cleared in one swipe, and apps can control individual notifications, silently updating, adding and deleting them.

The Verge has also confirmed more details in that Cortana, the Siri-like voice assistant that has been in development is coming to Windows Phone and that it would pull information from Foursquare, Bing and other portals to better answer search queries. The Action Center update will also split controls for volume and allow separate volume levels for notifications and media like music. All of the new Windows Phone 8.1 features are expected to be officially confirmed at the Microsoft Build developer conference in the beginning of April.
