Motorola has announced in a press release that it has launched an LTE test network in the Swindon area of the UK which includes a full service testing lab meant for use by carriers in order to refine LTE standards for future deployment.
The launch featured the first test call completed over the test network with a test unit running at 2.6 GHz sending and receiving data as well as touting the development of the self-organizing network infrastructure (SON) and base station transceiver (BTS) within the aforementioned lab as well as in other dedicated labs in Arlington Heights, Illinois; Fort Worth, Texas; Beijing, China and Bangalore, India.
Motorola expects to commercially deploy LTE equipment later this year.
