Motorola has issued three new firmware updates, all of which are available for updating via the internet.
The first, and largest update, is for the Verizon version of the Motorola Q9m. The update is not detected by the standard version of Motorola Software Update. Users must go to the MSU web site (linked below), and select the Verizon Q9m from the list of available phones. A special version of MSU for the Q9m will download and install.
The Q9m update upgrades the Windows Mobile 6 version from AKU 0.2 (which shipped initially) to AKU 0.6. The updated radio firmware version stands at 03.20.29P. It is not clear at this time if the update delivers gpsOne functionality which was added to the Motorola Q9c on Sprint.
The Motorola K1m has received an update as well. The updated software version stands at 01.19.08. This update is both available from Motorola Software Update, and at most Verizon Wireless stores. Please call the store and specifically request the update by version number to confirm availability.
Finally, a new update has been issued for the T-Mobile version of the Motorola W490. The version number is not available currently, nor is a change list. However, Motorola Software Update will identify if your phone needs to be updated.

This will allow users to select among Verizon Wireless, T-Mobile, etc, and then select which model they have. The link in the story is for the standard MSU and bypasses the special MSU update for the Verizon Wireless Q9m.
We did note in the article that you had to back out of the page, and manually select the Q9m to get the special Q9m version of MSU.
It should still work though. When you download the latest version of MSU, it should pull down 01.17, which should be able to download the Q9m update for Verizon. If it doesn’t… you know what to do, just download the Q9m special package.
All that package does though is just bundles the latest version of MSU with the ROM update payload… so that the user doesn’t have to sit and risk corruption later.
The problem is, MSU version 01.15 (the one right before 01.17) is not auto-updating… and that’s why folks with Q9m units aren’t seeing the update. I presume that’s because 01.17 was made just for the Q9m, and Motorola doesn’t see fit to make everyone update.
Motorola has added firmware updates for the US Cellular V9m and Z6m to its software update site.
Motorola has just added new software updates for the Sprint RAZR, KRZR, and SLVR also.
