The Open Mobile Terminal Platform, which is a consortium of network operators and phone manufacturers, has recently settled on the newly ratified microUSB standard as the standard port for all new handsets going forward.
LG, Nokia, Samsung, and Sony Ericsson have not set a firm date for the availability of new models with the new ports and chargers, which are designed around maximizing space on smaller and thinner phone designs.
The standard is currently being implemented by Motorola with the recently released MOTORAZR2.
