Sprint, Boost to Launch ‘Eco-Friendly’ LG Rumor Reflex

Sprint and Boost Mobile have jointly announced the forthcoming launch of the latest iteration of the LG Rumor series of messaging oriented feature phones in the ‘eco friendly’ LG Rumor Reflex.

The key features of the Reflex center on more enviromentally sustainable manufacturing techniques being applied to the production of the phone such as the elimination of sensitive materials which include but are not limited to polyvinyl chloride (PVC), brominated flame retardants (BFR), halogen, beryllium, phthalates and nickel, the use of 31 percent post-consumer recycled materials by weight as defined by UL Environment for the manufacturing of the phone’s bodyshell, Carbon-Free certification to offset the carbon footprint of the phone’s full lifecycle and fully recyclable packaging that is printed with soy inks, contains up to 87 percent post-consumer paper and was engineered with a new construction that does not use any adhesives. The Boost Mobile version ships in fully recyclable packaging that uses soy inks, and it contains up to 30 percent post-consumer paper. Up to 70 percent of the thermoform plastic in the packaging contains a combination of post-industrial or post-consumer waste.

In terms of technical specifications, the phone features  a large 3-inch WQVGA resolution touchscreen, full hardware QWERTY keyboard, 2-megapixel camera and camcorder, built-in GPS and MicroSD card slot supporting up to 32GB of memory. Interestingly LG and Sprint have decided not to ship the phone with Android and instead have decided to remain with LG’s operating system which supports BREW MP and Java ME for Sprint’s own OneClick feature phone overlay and for applications, a stark contrast to current trends where Android is being adopted all the way across product lines.

Pricing for the phone starts at $29.99 after a new 2 year agreement on Sprint with a $50 mail-in rebate, while pricing on Boost Mobile is fixed at $79.99. Launch for the Sprint version is set for this Sunday March 11th while the Boost Mobile version will launch on the 29th.
