Verizon’s Twitter account has confirmed that its variant of the forthcoming Samsung Galaxy S II will support LTE data access, though it’s not known whether it will be branded under the DROID series or if it will fall under the Galaxy S brand as with the previous Samsung Fascinate. Updated with clarification.
The Galaxy S II when launched on Verizon will be known as the Function and is expected to remain similar to the reference device with a 4.27-inch display Super AMOLED plus display, dual-core 1GHz processor, GPS, Wi-Fi N and FM radio with RDS support. It will also feature an 8.0 megapixel camera with 1080p video capture, auto-focus and flash.
The front facing camera is a 2.0 megapixel unit. DLNA for media sharing is also on board with a choice between 16GB or 32GB of onboard storage plus a microSD slot. The Galaxy S II will run Android 2.3 Gingerbread and includes a suite of Samsung specific software, such as TouchWiz, Social Hub, Media Hub, Readers Hub, and Game Hub.
Update: The Verizon Support account has clarified its original tweet, stating that the Samsung Galaxy Tab 10.1 4G features LTE support, while not having any further details to share on the Galaxy S II at this time.Â
