Following up on a previous article regarding Motorola’s contacting of XOOM 4G customers for the long-promised 4G LTE module upgrade, Motorola has issued the following statement on the matter:
A very small number of Motorola XOOM users recently received an email from Motorola regarding the 4G LTE upgrade process. While we are very excited about being able to offer the upgrade this summer, and know our customers are equally excited about the benefits that 4G LTE speeds will bring to their Motorola XOOM, the email was sent in error. We apologize for any confusion this may have caused, and look forward to being able to share more specifics on how — and when — users can take advantage of 4G LTE on their Motorola XOOM in the near future.
Motorola is still maintaining that the upgrade for the XOOM 4G will be made available this summer, despite delaying availability since its initial forecast of 90 days after launch.
I’d bet money at this point that it won’t ever come. Sounds like some technical issue that cannot be overcome. NEVER buy something with a promised future update; they rarely come.
Which s precicely why I WON’T buy this sucker until LTE card (and SD card support) are both sitting pretty inside the device cupped in my hands at the store. “Future availability”, my foot.
