The rest of the mobile media missed out on our Home Phone Connect coverage, but not readers of PhoneNews.com. Today, pricing for the Home Phone Connect service has been revealed. You can see photos of the first Home Phone Connect device in our original, exclusive report.
Verizon has begun to trial Home Phone Connect in select markets, with the following pricing: $9.99 as an add-a-phone on an existing Verizon Wireless plan, or $19.99 per month for unlimited local and long distance calling.
The company has also created its first support microsite for the device.
These rates clearly intend for Verizon to rival both Vonage and local landline providers, especially in markets where Verizon cannot extend POTS coverage to. With local number portability, customers can migrate from landline similar to T-Mobile’s @Home offering. Like Vonage and @Home however, the service does not work with fax and most alarm systems, limiting the scope of users that can easily migrate to Home Phone Connect.
Update: Verizon has informed us that the test markets are in parts of New York and Connecticut.
Purchased this device in Middletown, New York verizon store. Works great so far. I get a strong cell signal in my home, so made sense for me to try it out. Was very simple to connect my home phone and activate. This device will save me almost $20 per month.
Who is the manufacturer of that device? Not Verizon but who actually makes it.
Thanks
And we’d pay $19.99 for service we already have because why? We like our giant cordless or corded phones better? I am confused.
I got the device yesterday. Talking on it today. Old land line was 60$/ mo.This should net out at 25$ / mo The savings will buy me a data package for an iphone.
