Cingular Launches UMTS In New York, Plays Numbers Game

Cingular today launched UMTS BroadbandConnect service in New York, with planned coverage in Newark, and Jersey City. The Samsung ZX10 is now fully launched in the greater metropolitan area.

In related news, Cingular is attempting to inflate the amount of UMTS coverage they claim to have. The new version of their UMTS Coverage Page lists city-by-city, rather than each metropolitan area, as they had stated previously. Worse, some cities are miscategorized as being in a different metropolitan area. For example, Daly City is linking to the San Diego, CA map rather than the San Francisco, CA Map.
