The first live images of the forthcoming Playstation Phone manufactured by Sony Ericsson and powered by Android have surfaced.
The preliminary specifications for the device consist of the 1GHz Qualcomm MSM8655 (part of the Scorpion series of chips) 1GB of ROM, 512MB of RAM, the display is between 3.7 to 4.1 inches in diameter with a 16:9 aspect ratio and in a break with tradition, features a microSDHC slot.
The early hardware also features a sliding gamepad with the familiar Playstation layout, with the exception of a multi-touch analog pad between the directional pad and action keys.
The phone is expected to be released with Android Gingerbread along with a new storefront developed in cooperation with Google for the delivery of games to the device in a bid to compete with Apple’s surging position as a gaming platform.
Release timeframes had been previously predicted for Winter of this year in time for the holidays, but a 2011 release is now likely, due to the early state of the Android build being used and the need to launch the new storefront alongside the hardware.
Sony should ditch the whole Sony Ericsson venture. This so called gaming phone features a barely acceptable Qualcomm 205 GPU. Its on par with what the iphone has with its PowerVR 535 GPU.
The GPU king right now in the mobile phone world is any of the Galaxy S phones. They features a PowerVR 540 GPU which has shown in graphic benchmarks to be about 40-50% faster than the 535 GPU.
If Sony Ericsson really wants to have a killer phone, they need to try harder with better more cutting edge hardware.
How about next time you credit Engadget for the scoop instead of just grabbing their image and basically reposting their story?
Wow, considering the sole link in the article is to Engadget… I’d say you need to get your vision checked long before we need to get our facts checked.
Don’t worry, I saw the link. I just find it humorous and sad that within an hour or so of something on Engadget I find it here. Don’t worry, I know your going to dismiss me as troll so I’ve already taken the initiative to ban myself from the site by deleting my bookmarks to your site.
Wow, a rare double-troll.
Engadget has an exclusive scoop on a new phone. PhoneNews.com then goes and covers it “within an hour” and gives credit to Engadget.
Troll then denies PhoneNews.com gives credit, gets busted, and is accordingly put in his/her place.
Way to go PhoneNews.com! Keep it up!
