Following up, Verizon has announced the forthcoming availability of the NAV Builder SDK for developers today during the Verizon Developer Community Conference. The SDK allows for the implementation of location, mapping, directions, finders, alerts geo-tagging and other location-based services within third-party applications and also allows for the use of VZNavigator functionality to be called by other applications.
The NAV Builder SDK functionality was demonstrated earlier today by the CEO of recently acquired location-based social search developer Aloqa during the opening keynote with the flagship myAloqa mobile application for Android, one version running on the Nexus One using cell tower lock and another version running on the Motorola Droid 2 redeveloped with the NAV Builder SDK. The myAloqa application built with NAV Builder functionality was able to triangulate a location more accurately and it was also able to plot correct turn by turn instructions by calling the VZNavigator application.
The SDK is compatible with Android, BlackBerry, BREW and Windows Mobile along with other operating systems.
