As has been making the rounds in the mainstream media today, The Wall Street Journal is reporting that Apple will be releasing a CDMA iPhone this year intended for Verizon with manufacturing handled by AsusTek subsidiary Pegatron Technology. The report further states a September manufacturing timeframe ahead of the lucrative holiday season.
In related news, the first preliminary specifications for the next iPhone have surfaced. The next iPhone version is being given the iPhone HD name and will be announced on June 22nd. The device is expected to feature the A4 system-on-a-chip as found in the forthcoming iPad, 960 × 640 double-resolution display, second front-facing camera and third-party multitasking support in iPhone OS 4 with manufacturing handled by HonHai Precision.
The display specifications are confirmed by the appearance of a video on YouTube showcasing the replacement display for the yet unanncounced model as demonstrated by online repair service SmartPhone Medic which is longer than the previous model, features a larger home button and a front facing camera.
