Motorola has confirmed that the current flagship DROID smart device will be updated to Android 2.1 in an over the air update beginning this week.
The 2.1 build for the DROID will not feature the 3D wallpaper functionality or revised user interface of the Nexus One home screen. This appears to be due to the Nexus One having a faster CPU than the Droid, which launched as an Android 2.0 device.
The update will also mark the debut of multitouch support for Google Maps with Navigation, Google Goggles, and the rest of the upgrades found in last week’s Nexus One update.
The Motorola Droid launched in partnership with Google as the original Android 2.0 device.
