ZTE has announced in a press release that it has completed the first CDMA 1x Advanced voice call using its own prototype equipment while adhering to the standards set forth by the Third Generation Partnership Project 2 (3GPP2). To that end, the Chinese equipment manufacturer has also stated that it will launch network equipment compatible with the new standard in 2011.
CDMA 1x Advanced is the evolution of the CDMA 1xRTT voice transmission standard and is expected to achieve a fourfold increase in capacity by taking advantage of a new 4th Generation Vocoder (4GV), interference cancellation improvements, mobile receive diversity and radio link enhancements to ensure increased capacity and lower operating costs over the current 1xRTT standard used by CDMA carriers in the US and around the world.
