Upstart Sprint-powered MVNO Voyager Mobile has added additional states to its sales availability list since first launching service in late May after initially targeting a mid-May launch. The MVNO is noted for having the lowest prepaid service rates for monthly service at $19 for unlimited voice and messaging and $39 per month for unlimited voice, messaging and 3G/4G WiMax data access.
Following on its launch in 22 states which include Alabama, Delaware, Georgia, Illinois, Iowa, Kentucky, Maryland, Massachusetts, Minnesota, Mississippi, New Hampshire, New Jersey, North Carolina, Ohio, Oregon, Rhode Island, South Carolina, South Dakota, Tennessee, Virginia, Washington, and West Virginia, the service has expanded availability to Arizona, Connecticut, Indiana, Nevada, New Mexico, Pennsylvania, Oklahoma and Texas.
The MVNO features a wide spectrum of new and refurbished Sprint handsets starting at $65 for a refurbished Palm Pixi all the way up to a Samsung Epic 4G Touch for $549.99. The service also includes a rewards program known as Voyager Rewards, which intends to offer customers an incentive for frequent service usage. The operator also intends to roll out its own slate of mobile broadband devices and tablets in time along with additional features for current customers, such as an online account management portal, online rewards redemption portal and additional yet to be announced features.
The expansion of Voyager Mobile to additional states serves as a promising sign that the current surge in popularity of prepaid service is set to continue and continues to grow while more consumers grow more dissatisfied with more expensive postpaid service, which offers little advantage in comparison.
