Mobile VoIP and messaging service Viber has been officially acquired after a week of preliminary denials by the service. The service will now be a part of Japanese e-commerce conglomerate Rakuten’s new push to diversify into new digital businesses. Viber currently has 300 million registered users, but it has never released figures for monthly active users since its inception. Currently, Viber is available on multiple mobile platforms, including the desktop and functions as a rival to Microsoft’s Skype.
