Within the last week and a half, those that have been attempting to take advantage of Net10’s recently launched BYOP CDMA program powered by Verizon Wireless were met with non-functional pages or even blank pages, for good reason. Another insider under the employ of America Movil has detailed why the program has seemingly disappeared after only a week and a half of being somewhat active.
First, almost from the outset of the initial rollout on Net10 two weeks ago, the systems responsible for the validation of devices and the distribution of the activation codes were rife with issues such as credit card payment errors and device serial number validation errors, which meant that customers were met with inconsistency and instability when trying to add or activate compatible devices to the service.
After the first wave of activations were determined to be problematic and subsequent attempts forced the need for constant customer support, it was decided to pull the customer facing system completely offline for further development. However, those customers that were able to activate devices through the program in the short time it was available will be able to add and swap devices at will with no problem through the current customer account management page while the rest of the system undergoes further development.
As a result of the additional development time needed to ensure a reliable activation and device management system for customers, the CDMA BYOP offering across Tracfone brands Net10, StraightTalk and Telcel America is now expected to launch between the end of this month into the end of May, all depending on the amount of development still needed for the program to work smoothly for new customers. This does explain why the program was pulled completely within the last week and a half with no explanation and led to initial speculation that the program had been abandoned almost as quickly as it had been announced.
With the new, revised timeline for the CDMA BYOP program now available, it’s only a while longer before even more users on Net10, Telcel America and StraightTalk will be able to take advantage of the program, which will allow previously activated Verizon phones with clean serial numbers to be used on each respective brand at lower rates than the carrier itself.
