U.S. Cellular has confirmed that it is currently field testing VoLTE in three undisclosed markets in order to prepare for a full commercial launch of the service later this year.
The service will also be complemented by a rollout of carrier aggregation support across its network around the same time as the commercial VoLTE launch in order to better prepare for the transition from CDMA-based circuit-switched voice calls and to provide higher LTE data speeds to its customers.
The regional carrier has also confirmed during its earnings call that 94% of its native network features LTE coverage for its customer base, with the goal to cover 98% of its customers by the end of the year, with work on new LTE roaming agreements with unidentified carriers already underway.
