Toshiba announced a 3DTV sans 3D glasses as a preview to the CES show this week. Using Toshiba’s Integral Imaging Technology, along with “view point overlay technology”, viewers can not only see the images in 3D, they can actually move around slightly without losing the 3D effect.
Shifting angles too much will diminish the 3D effect however with similar image quality loss when viewing a traditional laptop or desktop display from extreme angles. Ideally, three people can arrange their seating and see the screen in 3D, although others in the room won’t be able to see the effect as well or at all.
Toshiba will be demonstrating a 3DTV as large as 65″, although the televisions are not expected to be available before March or April 2011, and then only in Europe before being released elsewhere by the end of the year.
