Sprint just announced over the newswires that they intend to buy affiliate US Unwired entirely for $1.3 billion. This would clear one of two motions for blocking the Sprint Nextel merger, the other as we have covered is being brought by Nextel affiliate Nextel Partners. It would also eliminate the ongoing and heated lawsuit against Sprint by US Unwired, who claims Sprint violated RICO laws by manipulating US Unwired out of control of key portions of their affiliate duties.
