Following up on T-Mobile’s silent rollout of a new update containing support for Wi-Fi calling and mobile hotspot/tethering support for select customers with the device yesterday, the carrier has seen fit to release the following statement:
Wi-Fi Calling and tethering/Wi-Fi sharing are not currently supported on the T-Mobile G2. T-Mobile knows these features are important to consumers and we’re working to deliver them to G2 users in the future. We have nothing further to announce at this time.
While the above statement does not deny the rollout or the existence of the update, the carrier is saying that the update does not enable the above features for immediate use and is implying that it only preloads the applications, despite also updating the cellular radio firmware. The latest information available also suggests that the update will begin its official rollout next week.
