T-Mobile opens up 4G LTE data speeds – for no extra charge – in both Canada and Mexico.
T-Mobile today announced that Simple Choice postpay customers can now make and receive calls for free to, from, and within Canada and Mexico.
Unlike T-Mobile’s free international roaming, which is throttled to 2G speeds, this will unlock the full 4G speed of devices – including LTE data at full speed. Existing plan quotas will work across all three countries, and Data Stash rollover data will also provide 4G speeds in Canada and Mexico.
The initiative, which T-Mobile calls Mobile Without Borders, may be a game-changer for T-Mobile as it will provide dramatic competitive advantage for those that frequently cross borders on either side of the United States, as well as providing simplicity for those who did not use Google Voice or other services for low-cost international calling to Canada and Mexico.
While T-Mobile did not explicitly say in its press release, it appears Simple Choice customers with unlimited, unthrottled data will enjoy the same speeds while in either Canada or Mexico. Because T-Mobile shares bands with LTE carriers in both countries, most customers will not need to be concerned with changing devices to have optimal connectivity in either country.
