Following up on a previous report regarding the soon to be launched data MVNO FreedomPop, Sprint has announced that it has granted the MVNO access to its complete data network in time for the service provider’s launch later this year, which includes its LTE network set to launch in 5 cities this weekend.
The expanded network access follows previous confirmation that it would use a custom manufactured iPhone sleeve with a WiMax radio to provide users with a capped amount of high-speed access per month for free, with additional usage being charged at “fair rates” according to the provider.
Currently, FreedomPop has plans to offer the previously reported iPhone sleeve as well as mobile broadband devices for wider device access, with additional data access outside of its 500MB complementary access priced at $10/GB. FreedomPop’s core service model at launch will rely on referrals to drive usage, as the more new customers are driven to the service, the more data access can be increased for a user’s account with no contract needed.
