In a letter being sent out to current Sprint customers with the venerable Voice Command feature still provisioned on current accounts, Sprint has disclosed that it will discontinue its once revolutionary service on July 1st.
The service was once hailed as a landmark offering for its ability to recognize actual human speech patterns instead of having to recite desired commands at a slow pace, which at the time was the first of its kind when the service launched in 2001 with availability on every handset, but is now seen as unneccesary with integrated platforms such as VoiceSignal being built-in to almost every current Sprint phone, negating the need for a hosted service.
Sprint is advising all customers with the feature currently provisioned on their respective accounts to visit this website for more information on alternatives to the hosted service, as well as ways to recover stored contact information.
This sucks… There’s no other way to have voice dialing over BT headset on a Palm 700p/755p/centro. And most smart phone don’t have that built-in function…
