Samsung Java 2 phones with Sprint now finally can take advantage of handset-based GPS services. Due to issues with bugs in Samsung’s gpsOne implementation of Sprint’s API, Sprint has been unable to certify these devices for GPS usage… until recently.
Be sure to update your firmware to the latest version, by going to Menu > Settings > Others > Update Phone Software. This will install any updates that may have been released for your Samsung that fix GPS (should your phone need it). Then go to the Sprint download store and go to Applications > Find It > Maps and More.
The first GPS application to be approved for Sprint Samsungs is Rand McNally Street Finder, at $4.49 a month.
