The first images of the next Sprint-powered smartphone for StraightTalk have appeared courtesy of HowardForums users in the Huawei Ascend II, an Android smartphone that was never officially released for Sprint or for its Prepaid Group.
The Ascend II has seen official releases on regional carriers such as Cricket and US Cellular, but was never slated officially for Sprint despite being tested internally before being rejected in favor of the less expensive Express. The Ascend II features the following specifications:
Android 2.3.6
3.5 inch touch screen at HVGA resolution
microSD card slot with support for 32GB cards
5.0 MP Camera with 720p video capture
600MHz Processor
The Ascend II has yet to be listed for sale on StraightTalk’s website and the only listings for the phone on the site are for its tutorial page, only found when accessing the help page for initial activation. Pricing for the phone is set at $179.99.
Currently, select Walmart locations are said to have the phone in stock and available for purchase while the retailer is said to be re-configuring its in-store lineup for the forthcoming launch of the Samsung Galaxy Proclaim and the future release of its first GSM Android smartphone in the ZTE 990G, which is a variant of the ZTE Avail currently available for AT&T.
