As a part of Sprint’s Java 2 API extensions, included in every MM-class phone, is voice recognition. This is in addition to Sprint’s other Java 2 API extensions such as gpsOne support for LBS.
Sprint this week began offering voice search access to ringtones. The application is a free download on Sprint’s download store for many MM-class phones. Users are told to hold down the talk key and speak naturally the request. Choosing a ringtone from the results then will re-route back to the Sprint downloads store to purchase the ringtone.
The voice recognition API, which PCS Intel has been previously briefed on, will enable many new features in coming Sprint applications, including voice-directed GPS navigation support. The largest impact on devices is in memory though, voice recognition applications can easily exceed 512 KB when combined with an existing complex J2ME application.
What company developed the Voice Recognition App??
