Sprint appears prepared to launch EV-DO with the merger’s Day One set to take place this Friday. The Sanyo 9000 will launch at $379.99, the Samsung 940 will launch for $399.99, and the Samsung 920 will launch for $349.99. It is not clear if all phones will be available at launch, or if any of them will be. Stores have been told to expect stock of them however, and it has been long rumored that at least one of them will be available at the launch of the merger.
Multiple internal documents from Sprint indicate the lack of an “A” on the Samsung model names. While not definite, it appears Sprint will be reinforcing the usage of the 9-for-EV-DO in-store by making all EV-DO models start with the number 9 for at least the inital launch of EV-DO.
Considering that Best Buy stores are taking stock of the Verizon version of the Samsung A940, the A970, it appears to be the most likely candidate for inital launch.
