Sprint representative RussMcGuire has confirmed on his personal blog that the changes allowing current smart devices on legacy SERO plans are indeed in the works and will be in place on October 1st, with those customers on non-SERO legacy plans such as Fair & Flexible at the mercy of a different internal group, with no confirmation on the availability of what is now known internally as the Iconic Devices Premium SERO plan for those customers still on those plans.
As previously reported by PhoneNews.com, the Iconic Devices Premium SERO plan will allow current SERO customers to upgrade to current Android and BlackBerry devices for an additional $10 monthly fee, with dual-mode 4G devices requiring another $10 fee. The first additional $10 fee covers the additions of Any Mobile Anytime, messaging, BIS for BlackBerry devices and navigation, while the second fee covers 4G access, making the monthly totals $40 and $50 respectively. Customers with BlackBerry devices already on the $40 SERO 500 plan will be automatically moved to the $40 SERO Iconic Devices plan with the aforementioned features.
Current customers that choose not to upgrade can remain with their current plans and devices, while those wanting to upgrade from older devices to BlackBerry, Android or Android+4G devices will be subject to the additional monthly fees in order to upgrade, with normal upgrade rules remaining in place.
This is great news. If my 5 line family plan with corporate discount doesn’t work out I will be switching back to sero and keeping my evo on the $50 sero plan. Sprint is doing some great things. It’s too bad that it doesn’t start till october. I guess a lot of people are going to enjoy the evo and the epic come october. Let’s hope they don’t do something to screw it up.
Wait a minute… I still dont understand. So for those of us on fair & flexible plans, r we out of luck??? I didnt quite understand that part of the article.
Please clarify for those of us on “free & clear” or “free & flexible” plans???
We have no update at this time on those plans. As far as we are aware, this offering is only for SERO customers.
SERO customers enjoyed a special plan that did not have clear continuity with the Everything Plus plans. Essentially, SERO customers are die hard loyalists that Sprint has finally realized they may not want to antagonize.
On the other hand, the majority of F&F and F&C plan holders are likely legacy customers that are not enthusiasts. As such, Sprint has less of a reason to cater to them, and instead probably wants to encourage them to step up to Everything plans.
I still have a sero plan and on the plan it actually says fair and flexible on the bill even though my plan is actually called Sero. Don’t know if that is a sign that the f&f will also be included.
I guess we will all soon find out……….
i am REALLY looking forward to upgrading my htc diamond to an evo once this goes through. does anyone have an idea of how many sero users are left? i imagine alot of them converted to eprp and there arent many of us left.
In my family there are still 4 sero lines. My friend use to have 2 sero lines but switched one over to att to get iphone. So there are probably a lot of sero users out there that sprint wants to make more money off. I don’t think that a certain phone is going to make people pay twice as much. That’s why sprint is probably doing this. i would still have my Sero line if I wasn’t switching over to a family plan with a corporate discount.
I’m actually thinking of going back to the hero and sell my evo due to battery life and the $10 charge that sprint doesn’t even count on my corporate discount. If htc makes a 1ghz 3g only phone I will give up any 4g phone for that since 4g isn’t coming to my town anytime soon.
I wonder how many people out there on sero are going to get a 4g phone? I don’t recommend evo if you want good battery life. That new epic looks good not to mention better processor, screen and battery life.
is the battery life that bad? how many hours do you get? crap now ive got much more thinking to do between now and 10/1. i looked at the hero at a sprint store and it looked severely outdated. the epic doesnt work for me because i dont like physical keyboards which sprint seems to have a love affair with lately. i wish sprint got something more in line with the nexus 1/desire, htc aria or the incredible…
How do I know if I have a SERO plan or F&F? I was signing up for SERO, but my on-line account says F&F 500
@sasha: you can call customer service and ask them. mine says sero f&f 500 when i log on to sprint.
So what happens to SERO users that have the — Fair and Flexible – 1250 Anytime Minutes ?
Which is what I have… The plan is already $49.99 adding $10 to switch to android and $10 for the 4g Doesnt make sense at $69.99… do you guys think those SERO customers will be given the option to go down to 500 minutes? I never go over like 400..lol guess everyone i know is on SPRINT.
Any ideas? thanks
[…] Following up on our latest report regarding the forthcoming changes to SERO allowing Android devices on accounts in October, Sprint […]
@ oppman,
According to Russ at the link above, it shouldn’t be a problem to drop to the 500, but I’d find and call the number especially for employee/SERO/EPRP plans to do that. I should have done that long ago myself way before these new plans even happened and saved a lot of $$$. Now looks like the time, since I’ll end up paying the same amount even after I add in these new plan options, which is pretty sweet. Mega minutes ended up being the last thing I needed. Anyway, if this all happens as it should, great news for those of us who kept SERO.
Holy cow, can this be true? I was one click away from ordering the TP2, figuring it was the end of the line for SERO phones. I saw this news in my search results and cancelled. phew! I am thrilled that I get to join the android party, especially because I live in Portland with 4G. I expect the Epic will be quite a jump from my Motorola Q9c!
That is good news…
but I am on the super old grand father plan
Free & Clear Plan 1000 – 1000 Anytime Minutes
but I got unlimited data plan and 1500 txt message.
Paying about $38/month…would really love to pay low to save $…
Can I switch to the 4G/android phone without changing the plan?
For those of you on Sero, I have good news. The rumor of restrictions being lifted on Sero come Oct 1 are true. The new plan will be called Sero Plus and it will allow you to upgrade to an Android phone for $10 more and $10 for 4G. So if you are on Sero 500 for $30 like me, your new plan will be $50 for 500 min and unlimited data – not bad. It gets better…the CSR I spoke to is letting me do the upgrade now (getting phone tomorrow) which will put me on a new plan, but they gave me a $20 credit for the month I am on the new plan and they are calling me back on Oct 1 to switch me back to the Sero Plus plan. You just have to get the right CSR that will be willing to do this for you. Hope this helps anyone on Sero wanting an Epic or EVo. Cheers!
@brandodemando, which number did you dial?
For those of you who have the Sero 1250, you should seriously consider downgrading your plan to the Sero 500 before 10/1/10. The direct number to the Sero Department is 1-866-264-1282. Don’t call any other department or speak with any other Sprint CSR that is not from the Sero Department because they know nothing and will offer you know help. The Sero CSR will review your monthly minutes to see if your usage is less than 500 or right about before changing. I was able to downgrade my account and receive a $20 credit for the month too. Hope this was enough Nfo.
There’s always hope for the cheap and the broke!
@ Mr Nfo, is there any particular reason to do that (other than perhaps the saved money) before 10/1, when the $40 SERO Premium 500 plan actually becomes available? http://delivery.sprint.com/m/p/nxt/epc/EPRP2-modal.asp?vanity=false&popup=true
I am seriously counting down the days until SERO liberation day. I can almost taste that super-amoled screen.
Hi,
I’m curious how/if Theses changes will have any affect my plan which is a old power pack 450
Id love to have a Evo but cant on this plan
Every Sprint CS person who I mentioned this to swears its all a fat rumor and not to get my hopes up…
But hope springs eternal..
Not a rumor, magenta. Sprint has officially confirmed it–CSRs are not going to know about it because it’s only serviced by Sprint’s employee accounts division, not the main CS resources. However, if your plan is not already labeled SERO unfortunately you can’t convert to it after October 1.
So.. for those of use not on SERO or F+F.. nothing?
I have a retention family plan. Think it is called the powerpack 1000 family plan. I only use one phone data and text messaging. I had free text and data on the line at one point but customer service took it off by accident and was unable to restore it. They gave me a credit to compensate for deleting my data package. Can I upgrade this plan and drop the extra charges for data and texting and still get the samsung epic for just 10 dollars more?
Ok, Its Oct 1st
Any one have any exciting news regarding this???
How are SERO customers any more “die hard loyalists” than Free and Clear customers??? That makes little or no sense. I’ve been a a Sprint customer 10+ years now on the Free and Clear plan. That should count for something regardless of the plan I’m currently on.
Christopher Price on August 19th, 2010, 11:20 am We have no update at this time on those plans. As far as we are aware, this offering is only for SERO customers.

I totally agree with Harper, being loyal, it should count for something regardless the plan.
I am still with the super old F&C plan, very soon, I am going to switch to Everything family plan. I am just waiting for good timing switch.
I have the power pack 1000 from Sprints retention department 2lines everthing extra for free included plus $20/24 month discount discount would Sprint be willing to allow the €vo for $20 more per mo. per each line or swap this plan for the expired sero plan/plus
I think the solution to Legacy plan holders wishing to upgrade to newer Andriod phones is this; Email Dan @ sprint.com and explain how you would like the option similar to the Sero customers got October 1st 2010…Remind Dan that you have had your plan as long as the Sero plan holders,,,and that the Sero plan was open to new customers in 2008. As a long time customer it is only fair that the offer to be a Sero plan holder also be available to those of us on the F@C<and F@F< and the other retention offers such as the Powerpack plans. Bottomline there are many of us that were eligible for the Retention offer Sero plan but were already with Sprint with plans created before this offer took place. I believe it is only fair to allow these customers to upgrade to the plan that would end up with such an excellent upgrade option. Before there was Android Sero plans and our plans were similar so why change,,,now without an upgrade option similar to the Sero plan we are being slowly not recognized as Long term Sprint customers with good plans but complainers that weren't lucky enough to get one of these sero plans when offered to the public. Dan if even just one new customer was reffered to this plan by the retentions CS rep it should be open to all of us that were with Sprint at that time. Sprint allows free movement from one plan to the other. At this point we should be eligible.. Dan please open the gate………
