Japan’s Casio Computer Co. Ltd., known in this country for their line of Databank and Ironman watches is planning to enter the United States cellphone market. This, along with ramping up sales of their line of digital cameras in the U.S., is part of a dual-pronged strategy to gain more of a foot-hold into the U.S. electronics market.
Since Casio makes phones for the Japanese carrier AU/KDDI, it would seem that they are targeting Sprint/Nextel and Verizon in this country, due to the fact that AU/KDDI is also a CDMA carrier, and re-purposing their phones would be easy. One interesting fact to note is just like the popular line of G-Shock watches, Casio also makes a line of ruggedized phones with the same rugged design. These phones are both water-proof and drop resistant. Many are speculating that Casio will also sell this line in the U.S. to fill a niche not currently offered in the CDMA market.
