PhoneNews.com has learned that December 18th has been tentatively set as the launch date for the Sprint version of the BlackBerry 8530 Curve according to multiple sources.
The device is functionally identical to the Verizon variiant with a Wi–Fi radio, 2.0 megapixel camera, GPS support, EV–DO Rev 0 instead of Rev. A, 256MB ROM/128MB RAM, BlackBerry OS 5.0, 2.5 inch landscape QVGA display, microSDHC expansion slot, 3.5mm headphone jack, dedicated media player controls, Bluetooth with stereo audio support and speakerphone.
Update: According to a new internal roadmap confirmed by employees, the new launch date for the 8530 on Sprint is now set for January 10th, 2010.
It’s about time. Sprint is really good about not releasing phones on time. Still may hold out to see if they will carry the Storm.
“On time” – isn’t it more important to release phones when ready and not buggy. The Storm 1 on VZ was a joke.
CANT WAIT! LOVE MY BB CURVE BUT 2 WISHES ARE ON 6530 OPTICAL TRACK AND WIFI. ANYTHING ELSE WILL JUST BE ICING ON THE CAKE. JUST HOPE IT WILL WORK WITH SLINGBOX
why is this Rev 0 and not Rev A? is this a typo?
The look is the 1st turnoff but no DOrA is the main reason, even basic phones going forward ought to at least be fast.
I just spoke with someone at sprint and the release date is January 10th 2010. That is what they told me.
Well dang! What’s the deal? Nobody can give us a solid date.
The Original Date was December 3rd, but it got pushed back. Now they are saying the 18th. I dont even care about this phone… Im just waiting for the Essex 9650 to release sometime between Q1 & Q2 of next year…
if i know anything about RIM, expect it in june. exaggeration, but they rarely actually launch at the expected date. they typically push it back 3 months or so. you would think that if they were to push it back for further testing, they would come out with something that doesn’t immediately defect (referring to the 8130 & 8330 trackballs CONSTANTLY having to be replaced, leading them to new technology with the 9630 trackball which…also was defective from launch, except this time sprint has to replace the entire device instead of just popping a new trackball in, which leads us to the optical mouse. i can only imagine. Keep on keeping on, RIM.)
The Curve 8530 was released today and not Janaury 10
