Ever gotten a text message on your phone that reminds you of those mountains of spam you get everyday in your email? Well, rest assured, Sprint has been hunting down the people that are doing it, and cutting off their access to Sprint’s text messaging systems. Unfortunately, in the process Sprint has blocked out legitimate applications, and is not good at admitting when they make a mistake.
A perfect example is SMS Monitor for the Hitachi G1000. Sprint has blocked the IP address of SMS Monitor’s server, preventing it from sending text messages to Sprint customers. Since the Hitachi G1000 does not have SMS or Short Mail, SMS Monitor is hard to be considered a program designed to circumvent Sprint’s SMS fees, and was much more likely blocked because Sprint thought it was sending spam.
Sprint has no official method of getting off this blacklist, they do not have an established process or email address that people can report over-zealous spam blocking. Data support has no information about IP blacklisting to Sprint’s messaging server, and thus has been unable to properly escalate the issue.
