Sprint Announces First Direct Connect Smartphone in Motorola Admiral

Sprint Motorola AdmiralSprint has officially announced pricing and launch details for its first Sprint Direct Connect compatible smartphone in the Motorola Admiral. The phone will first be offered on October 23rd for $149.99 before an additional $50 mail-in rebate via Sprint’s sales channels as a pre-order, with the launch on November 16th.

The phone features Android 2.3 Gingerbread, Sprint’s DirectConnect service, a 1.2GHz processor, 3.1-inch VGA resolution portrait display, QWERTY keyboard, a 5.0 megapixel camera with flash and 720p HD video capture, mobile hotspot support for up to five devices, Wi-Fi N radio, and 4GB of internal memory with microSD slot. The phone supports all of the functionality supported by Sprint DirectConnect such as:

  • Guaranteed Talk Permit for guaranteed service.
  • Call Alert with Text
  • Group Connect
  • TeamDC
  • NextMail
  • Availability Notification
Additional functionality is expected to be rolled out next year, including Push to X for sending multimedia via Sprint Direct Connect, International Direct Connect support and other capabilities yet to be announced.
