iPCS Inc, an affiliate of Sprint, is in the hunt to preclude Sprint from forming a deal with Clearwire Corp to offer high-speed mobile WiMax. On the other hand Sprint clearly believes that this new formation will not affect its affiliates, therefore appealing against that decision.
“iPCS believes that Sprint Nextel’s recently announced WiMax transaction is yet another attempt by Sprint Nextel to breach the exclusivity provisions of the iPCS affiliation agreements,” the company said in a release. Sprint last week asked a Delaware Chancery Court to rule that the Clearwire transaction doesn’t violate the exclusivity arrangement with iPCS.
Significantly If Sprint proceeds with their WiMax plan, within the next year or two; they will be the only vendor with this capability nationwide. With WiMax, Sprint will be able to compete with ISPs, Cable companies, land-line phone companies, and more.
