Sprint has announced that it has added support for Asurion’s Mobile Recovery application for Android and BlackBerry to its Total Equipment Protection insurance plan. The Mobile Recovery app functions by allowing web-based tracking of lost/stolen devices via GPS, sound alarms, remote device lock and wipe. The app itself is free and requires TEP on the account in order to be given a login for the app.

On the surface it sounds great, however more reason for one to protect their account vitals, otherwise anyone could “call it in” and request a favor of “wipping” on your “misplaced” device!

Not a bad idea and kudos to them for adding it at no extra charge other than the cost of TEP. Though i’m sure it will save Assurion some money in replaced phones, but if it helps you find your phone a couple times, the it’s extra added value at no extra charge other than the already acquired TEP subscription price.
