A brief follow-up to the recent coverage of the PPC-6600 and its potential support for EV-DO. We have been able to determine that the main reason that our original update did not work was Sprint’s EV-DO PRL. It appears that the 20007 PRL is very targeted for data card devices. Modified versions of the 20007 PRL have shown to be able to support EV-DO and fully connect with the PPC-6600.
At the same time, Audiovox and Sprint appear to be in agreement that it would be easier to release a new variant of the PPC-6600, identical in hardware, but with a different ESN block, updated firmware (identical to the update we released) and with a proper EV-DO PRL preloaded. We caution Sprint to not release the same device twice, nothing burns customers more than to tell them that a few lines of code and a PRL are going to cost them $629.99…
